The animal that is associated with your sign is a bull. A white bull was sacrificed in Babylonia at the New Year to appease the god of thunder and lightning, known as Ramman, and the Egyptian Hourus was the bull of heaven.

The Emerald is your birthstone. It was used as a burnt offering, a symbol of St. John, and was a supposed poison antidote, eye relief (because of its remarkable color), cure for dysentery and leprosy, cure for fevers, when laid on the stomach it relieved stomach problems, and a good laxative.

Characteristics of the Taurean are practicality, determination and strength of will, stable, balanced, law-abiding citizens and lovers of peace. Taureans will never be driven but will instead willingly and loyally follow a leader that has earned their trust. They have a great respect for property and a horror of being in debt but will do everything imaginable to maintain the security of the status quo..

The bull is keen-witted and practical more often than intellectual. They tend to become fixed in their opinions through choice for following accepted and proven patterns of experience. Because their character is generally dependable, firm and strong, Taureans tend to stand unshaken when faced with challenges. Their vices arise from their virtues, sometimes going to extremes, such as being to slavish to the things they admire or desire.

They are more than averagely amorous and sensually self-conscious, but sexually straightforward and not given to experimentation. They are faithful, home loving spouses and kind and thoughtful parents. Although they can be over possessive and sometimes play the game of engineering family roles for the pleasure of making up the quarrel. Beware of the Bull when it comes to offending their personal life and relationships because they can be a determined enemy, though forgiving if their opponent makes an effort to meet them half way.

The Taurean ultimately needs to discover their deepest, truest and highest values. It is when they truly know what is valuable, they are no longer bound to people and to things that have to do with lesser values. Taureans view beauty as the greatest manifestation of value, which can only be appreciated, not owned.

Taurus governs the neck and throat and needs to beware of throat infections, respiratory ailments such as asthma and goiters. Taureans are also at risk of deseases of the genitals, womb, kidneys and liver, and of abscesses. Because their body type has an tendency to be physically lazy, they can be overweight.
